Thedailytechtalk – What is MLFF? The toll road entrance fee payment system using e-toll is planned to undergo changes. E-toll will be replaced with a multilane free flow (MLFF) system.
Head of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) Danang Parikesit said the government wanted to improve the experience of toll road users. One of them is better service in terms of time and ease of transactions on toll roads.
With the latest payment system, it is possible for drivers to continue driving while crossing toll roads without having to stop to make payments at toll gates or gates.
“This has become a global concern. Relating to energy, time and others. From the initial study, why should this program be encouraged, because it has a significant impact on reducing fuel consumption and also reducing greenhouse gas emissions from motorized vehicles,” said Danang recently.
Musfihin Dahlan, Chief Representative of Roatex, who works on the MLFF project in Indonesia, said that based on his study, there would be a lot of savings that would occur.
“So far, each toll gate by tapping takes the fastest 4 seconds, the longest is around 6-7 seconds. It will make when the traffic is too high, it will create a very long traffic jam,” said Musfihin on the same occasion.
In addition, with the current use of e-toll, there are also many toll road users whose balances are lacking. This lack of balance makes the queues at the toll gates even longer.
What is MLFF (Multilane Free Flow)?
The Director General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Budi Setiyadi said that currently the MLFF system is still in the research process involving several related parties. “This is still in the process of being researched by BUJT, including PUPR, including BPTJ,” he said during a press conference held on Tuesday (17/5/2022). Quoted from Kompas.com .
The project for the development of the MLFF toll payment system has been promoted since around the beginning of 2021. In terms of developing the MLFF project, the BPJT of the Ministry of PUPR is collaborating with PT Roatex Indonesia Toll System (RITS).
MLFF is expected to create efficiency and effectiveness of the payment system on toll roads. The idea of the MLFF toll payment system is actually the same as e-toll, namely that payments are not made in cash or cashless. However, MLFF has a more specific difference in the way it is paid. Quoted from the official website of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR),
With MLFF, drivers no longer need to stop at toll gates to make payments as is commonly used in e-tolls. If the balance is sufficient or balance is lacking, he can still pass. So, apart from being cashless, MLFF is a toll road payment system that also has a contactless concept.
